Alexander began work as a photographer at the age of 20 while studying with Pipo Nguyen-Duy at Oberlin College. From the beginning, Alexander has experimented with long exposures; for example, juxtaposing images of a face looking in two different directions. Her focus has always been the human figure, and continues to be in her current work. In 2008, Alexander moved back to her hometown of Berkeley, CA, where she now has her studio, and works primarily in color digital format. The artist's most recent project, 'In Medium', a series of 11 or 12 photographs, is currently showing in part at several different galleries, including spaces in Brooklyn, NY and San Jose, CA, and has also been published in the premier issue of San Francisco's Descry Magazine. With this recent work, Alexander has taken her earlier experiments with blur to an extreme which leaves the end results nearer, at times, to paintings rather than photographs.
